What should I expect during a cupping treatment?

During a cupping treatment, a cup is placed on the skin and then heated or suctioned onto the skin. The cup is often heated with fire using alcohol, herbs, or paper that’s placed directly into the cup.
The fire source is removed, and the heated cup is placed with the open side directly on your skin. Some modern cupping practitioners have shifted to using rubber pumps to create suction, versus more traditional heat methods.
When the hot cup is placed on your skin, the air inside the cup cools and creates a vacuum,
that draws the skin and muscle upward into the cup. Your skin may turn red as the blood vessels respond to the change in pressure. With dry cupping, the cup is set in place for a set time, usually between 5 and 10 minutes.
Any mild bruising or other marks usually go away within 10 days of the session.

What is a Sports Massage?

A sports massage targets isolated areas of the body, aids in the recovery from physical strain, and helps treat acute and chronic injuries. Athletes and other sportspersons have been known to turn to sports massages to boost their performance as well. Even Įtness beginners or amateur athletes can meet their health and sports goals with the support of a massage therapy plan. As such, a sports massage therapist requires study and training in sports and athletic performance and be intimately familiar with the human anatomy. To deliver a therapeutic session that helps improve conditioning and encourage recovery, a sports massage therapist will also require experience in sports and rehabilitation therapy. The benefits of a sports massage extend to better flexibility and blood circulation, lower the probability of an injury, eliminate toxins, and accelerates recovery. It also helps relieve pain in muscles and joints and alleviates swelling and jarring. The focus of a sports massage is to concentrate on healing previously sustained injuries and working on the muscles to avoid further damages as well.

What is a Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep tissue massages—usually associated with spas—are meant to treat musculoskeletal aches and pains. It works by relaxing the body and mind and treating muscle stiffness and joint pain. Sustained pressure and deep strokes used in this type of massage help target deep layers of muscles and connective tissues. So, expect a therapist to knead and press the muscles to alleviate soreness and fatigue all over the body. Most therapists will use two common techniques—stripping and friction. In the first, therapists will apply gliding pressure in the direction of the length of muscle fibers. In the second, deep pressure is applied across the muscle grain. Both movements help get rid of tight knots and encourage blood flow. Deep tissue massages are not specialized—they simply help ease general discomfort that arises from fatigued muscles.
